Form Six to us initially seemed to be a safe haven. We thought this was it: we had reached! We were now amongst the select few who are brave enough to face the hordes of work and step up to the plate of required responsibility. It was our choice. It was our journey towards the end, and no doubt it would be a long journey, filled with a fair share of challenges. But together - through the strengths of each other and of God in us - we would conquer.

I welcome you to an occasion that many may see as an end but at every end there is a new beginning. Yet it isn’t the beginning nor the end that define the journey, it is everything that happens between them, and what a journey it has been. It’s the camaraderie we shared, the lessons that we learnt and the bonds that we have formed – a bond so strong that we became a family.

“I hate graduations”. This statement, accompanied by a few sniffles and a slight welling of tears, pretty much defined my position about 3 weeks ago. Back then, the possibility of friendships to dwindle, habits and addictions to be abruptly cut off and new unknowns that I would now have to familiarize with formed a disagreeable odour as it wafted through the air and drew tears to my eyes.
