Background and Philosophy

Q. Who governs NGC?
A. NGC is governed by a board comprising the Elders of The Elijah Centre and other representatives of the Congress-WBN.
Q. Is NGC a school for Christians?
A. NGC is founded on the Biblical principles of justice and integrity and accepts students from all ethnicities, nationalities and faiths.
Q. What is the NGC worldview as regards education?
A. Education is a tool for human development and must impact the mentality of students. It is a        journey from ignorance to knowledge, from naïveté to wisdom, from self-centeredness to community-mindedness.

Curriculum

Q. What academic programme is offered at NGC?
A. Students are prepared to sit external examinations in the core subjects of mathematics and English together with a programme of foreign languages, natural, social and computer sciences, modern studies, business subjects and visual arts.
Q. What is offered as a non-academic programme?
A. Biblical studies, sports, drama, debate, dance, career guidance, environmental responsibility.
Q. Do students receive textbooks and book grants under the government programme?
A. All NGC textbooks on the approved ministry list are provided.

Do you offer tuition for the SAT?

A. From September 2006, SAT English I and Math I will be offered to post-CSEC students as part of a 1 year “Career Path” day programme.
Q. Do you have an evening programme?
A. Discussions are currently being held to facilitate an evening programme of studies.

Facilities

Q. What facilities does NGC have?
A. Apart from classrooms there is a library, computer lab, science lab, cafeteria, and sports field.
Q. Does the cafeteria provide hot meals?
A. Students can purchase hot meals as well as sandwiches and salads from the cafeteria.
Q. Is there a nurse?
A. Parents are asked to collect their children in case of illness. In case of accident or emergency students are taken to the Mt Hope Hospital.

Fees and Finances

Q. How is NGC financed?
A. NGC is a private school where parents pay fees for their children to attend.
Q. Are scholarships available to students?
A. Parents and a few private individuals assist us to give scholarships to deserving students. We are currently seeking corporate sponsorship.
Q. What are the fees for the academic year 2006-2007?
A. The fees are TT$3500 per term or TT$10, 500 for the academic year, and must be paid in advance.
Q. Do students have to pay to sit external examinations?
A. Students sitting CXC CSEC and CAPE examinations for the first time have their fees paid by the Ministry of Education.
